These original buttons adorned United States Military Academy at West Point uniforms. They appeared on the cuffs of full dress coatees, the capes of winter overcoats and the capes of ponchos. Cadets used to sell their used clothing through the Cadet Activities office. During the Civil War Centennial and as late as the early 1990's, many Westpoint Cadet uniforms were converted for civil war reenactment use. This resulted in a number of stray buttons being available.
Various backmarks, 24 K gold over brass.
